Tickle Me Jesus Teddy Bear

November 30, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Man, this lady should have named the teddy bear Jesus. She could have gotten a sweet book deal from a Christian publisher, a patent-pending endorsement from a major global manufacturer, a new show on TBN and Wal-Mart could have possibly squeezed out a few million units of “Praying Hands Teddy Bear Jesus” before the holiday rush.

I don’t know whats more disturbing, the story in Sudan or that the above scenario could easily happen.

MIA and the Apology Henceforth

November 28, 2007 · 3 Comments

Hi. Do we know each other anymore? I use to bring you flowers…now, nothing. My apologies. The past week I would love to erase from my memory. It all started the morning after my birthday bash…

>woke up throwing up (too much information?) and had to get on a airplane to Baltimore for three days for work.

>felt like this the entire trip

>get back in town and the wife and daughter get sick, one the day before Thanksgiving and the other the night of

>spend my official 30th birthday in bed with a fever

>leave work early every day the rest of the week with fevers, nausea, incurable pains…

Shall I continue? Ok.

>KU loses to MU

>Woke up yesterday with a fever and sore throat

But things are looking up. Hopefully finishing decorating the Christmas tree tonight (the poor tree has had 1/2 the lights on it for three days). Still working on my holiday surprise details for all of YOU.

My thirties have started a little rough, but I’m hopeful this will be the best decade yet. What’chu got for me people?!

Reasons to Like the Band Maritime (and others like them):

November 15, 2007 · Leave a Comment

:: They’re good.

:: They’re not too well known in musical circles (or at least my cirlces).

:: They’re unassuming rockers. No matching suits with black ties.
:: They are playing a $2 (two dollars people!) show in Lawrence at the Replay Lounge Friday night.

I highly suggest picking up their two latest albums, Heresy and the Hotel Choir (latest) and We, the Vehicles. Bet you can’t tap your foot just once.

1. Could I ever vote for someone with two first names?

2. Is there any candidate who, upon becoming president, would dismantle the Federal Reserve?

3. How much are flats in London going for these days?

You Need Art

November 2, 2007 · 1 Comment

What seems like a lifetime ago, I had the privilege of working with some amazing artists in Lawrence, KS for three years. My favorite to this day is Lawrence artist Heather Smith Jones. I recently discovered her blog, where she muses about her paintings, mixed media and life stories. Her polaroids are some of the coolest I have seen.

I’m also posting about this because I’m a huge proponent of owning original art no matter what your budget. So as we approach the holidays, maybe surprise someone with a little art. HSJ is represented by Signs of Life Gallery inĀ  Lawrence and Byron Cohen Gallery in The Crossroads.

Two years ago today my wife and I opened up our little business venture in Kansas City and the world. Almost every week I say to myself that it has been the worst, best decision I have ever made in life. Probably the biggest thing I have learned through this whole experience hasn’t been marketing, retailing or finance, but that we are blessed with some amazing friends. So cheers to you and hopefully to many more years of shoe schleppin’!
