Still unknowing in my Presidential pick, all this talk on Obama and elitism is fairly ridonculous. I’m not fully understanding why the conservative media is spinning elitism as bad. I think that if you tag elitism with any job in America, it should be with President of the United States.
I don’t want the President to be like me. I make too many mistakes. I settle for less. I work hard but am also lazy. I eat a bowl of ice cream every night and watch Inside Edition. I drive a Honda. I drink Corona and sometimes….PBR….in the can. I eat Little Ceasar’s Pizza with bread sticks (Hot N Ready for $5!).
I want the President to be the smartest guy in the room, and to know it. I want the President to be driven around in a custom Bentley, given a mimosa for breakfast, and be sponged bathed every morning with cashmere hankies.
Personally, I think Obama needs to embrace his elitism in public. He’s earned it. I never want to hear anything like “I am just like you…” come out of his mouth. Because it’s just not true. I think that exploiting a compassionate-elitist (if there could be such a phrase) attitude is what America really wants. That’s what most Americans want for themselves.
I don’t want to look at the President and see myself or like with W., think I could do better. I want to be led, to be in awe and to believe. All that being said, Obama’s rise above the normal man combined with his Marxist-ish talk about “we” and “the people” rub me the wrong way…and for that, I’m still not comfortable with him having my vote. I can’t help being a slightly conservative, white male capitalist who is sometimes extremely vain. What about my needs?
Read Maureen Dowd’s article in the NYTimes. Not that I agree with her always, but she’s hilarious.
