I’m going through a musical dead zone. Tell me what I need to be listening to. When you get a chance, check out LaLa.com. Yes, it is another music listening site, but with a few other bells and whistles. If you sign up, you get 50 free downloads. You can follow different people, whether you know them or not, to see what they are listening to and bands they are following. Good way to keep up with new musical finds.
Currently digging:
- Old Tears for Fears
- Cut // Copy
- several songs from the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack

I, too, have recently been dealing with musical blandness. A friend then suggest I get a Smiths album. I did and things have been good. I highly recommend “Louder than Bombs.” I also recently picked up the new Franz Ferdinand album. It is dance-a-licious.

Elemental may not be as old as the Tears for Fears you have been listening to – but I love that album.
I think its a sure sign that im getting old when i listen to many of the critically hyped bands ( TV on the Radio anyone? ) and can’t help but think they are doing everything in their power to write a song purposefully devoid of melody.
We have been listening to Ladyhawke nonstop because my wife and kids love it ( and so do I ).
Going back in the archives i can never get enough of the Church.
The latest Kings of Leon has been played alot.
Some others of varying “newness”:
Gemma Hayes – Hollow of Morning
Helio Sequence
Mates of State – i was never a big fan of their previous albums but really like the latest one.
Longwave – Secrets are Sinister – I saw them at a tiny little place in Chapel Hill years ago and that guy does stuff with an analog delay that has mesmerized me ever since.
M83 -i love that band

I second the Ladyhawke recommendation. “My Delerium” is my phone’s ringtone!
Just downloaded today Beirut’s newest. Good stuff. Also got Alela Diane. Good for a lazy Sunday morning. And finally I filled out my 30 eMusic downloads for the month with a handful of songs from the very good Dark Was The Night compilation. Only been listening to all of this today, but I recommend them.
As for other stuff, I’ve been enjoying the newest from Andrew Bird, Antony and the Johnsons, and Bon Iver. And, if you like Switchfoot and Nickel Creek, you might enjoy Fiction Family, a side project from members of the two other bands.
I’ve been digging Lala.com for a while now. But, do be aware, signing up does not give you 50 free downloads. It gives you 50 free song credits for songs that can only be listened to on Lala.com’s site, not on your music player of choice. I’ve been using the credits to reminisce a little. I downloaded some old Tevin Campbell. That kid could sing!
